Postcard from Gloucester – 01.07.11

It has been a month since our last Postcard and a very busy month it has been.  The end of the year at Redcliffe is always a very busy time but particularly for Christine as she has to organize volunteers and students to get the college tidied up in time for the graduation celebrations.  Jim had been asked to lead the worship at the Thanksgiving service and pulled together a dream team of musicians which made the whole experience a true pleasure and privilege.  In the middle of all this Jim made another quick trip out to Spain to keep up the momentum on the collaborative church-planting initiative in Cordoba.  A “route map” indicating the next steps of this project has been prepared and presented to the pastors for their consideration and some very positive things are starting to happen so keep praying.  Not to mention the ongoing research work with NOVA and some lecturing both at Redcliffe and All Nations.

Thank you for your prayers for Grace and Alex.  They have now finished their exams and are really looking forward to their summer break.  Christine has put Grace on a crash course in university cooking to get her ready for October so I guess we will all be eating a lot of pasta over the next few weeks!  Before he finishes school Alex has a week of work experience and he will be going to Cardiff to work in the headquarters of a national chain of a chain of neighborhood supermarkets.  Pray that God would go with him and that it would help him as he starts to think about a future career.  We know how much you like to see photos of the kids so a shot of the three of them dressed up for a recent Pirate Murder Mystery Party is attached.

We are now into July 2011 and this is quite a milestone since it is twenty years ago this month that we left our careers with Kodak and Catering and Allied and began the adventure of trusting God to provide for our needs.  That summer we went off to the Philippines for a three-month placement with OMF and immediately afterwards to begin our course at All Nations Christian College.  As we look back over this time we are just amazed at how God has provided and the sums involved are just astronomical, we are not talking tens of thousands but hundreds of thousands of pounds.  Some of you have been with us since the very beginning, others have become partners more recently, but we just want to say an enormous thank you to all of you.   Even though we are currently back in the UK we see this as just another chapter in our story so we remain 100% ECM missionaries and open to God as to where he might take us next.  Of course this means we are still dependent on support and since we have noticed a drop in our support levels recently we will need to raise some extra funding this year.  Please pray with us in this.  We will continue to do deputation meetings and in fact will be at Woodlands Church in Derby this Sunday and Ebenezer Chapel in Talbot Green, Cardiff, the Sunday after that so if you are in the area we would love to see you.

Finally, our holiday this year will be two weeks at our house in Aguilar, and we will be driving down through France and Spain on the 23rd and 24th of July.  Pray for safe travel, for some good times with friends in Cordoba but also for a good rest.

With all our love as always,

Jim and Christine
