What is it?
Holiday Bible Club is an event that started X years ago with the purpose of providing activities for the children during the summer holidays. It is run by Ebenezer Church Sunday School Staff with help from other leaders/members of the church. Each year Gary Sterling (who is involved in Children’s Ministry) comes to speak at the event. At the end of the week there is a special family night.
Why do we do it?
Holiday Bible Club was started to provide the children of the local community with activities over the school holiday period and a way to share the gospel message of Christianity with those around us.
What does it involve?
Holiday Bible Club is an opportunity for children to participate in playing games, singing songs, making crafts and learning. Each year has a different theme and some of the activities are centred around this theme.
The format is as follows:
- Arrive 9-9:30am for registration
- 9:30 – 10:15 am children play games, sing songs, hear a story and learn memory (bible) verses with Gary
- 10:15 – 11:00am children split into two groups, one doing crafts/activities and the other playing games
- 11:00 – 11:45am groups swap over (with a short drinks break)
- 11:45 – 12:00am all children assemble together and sing a few more songs with Gary before finishing
Activities might include cooking pizza and baking cakes, playing physical games. Themed activities for the 2010 HBC the ‘Forgotten Kingdom’ included making spiders, scorpions and snakes.
When is it on?
Holiday Bible Club runs during the summer holiday for one week. This year is ran from Monday 2nd August to Friday 6th August. It starts at 9:30am and finishes at 12 noon.
What is the age range?
Holiday Bible Club is aimed at children of primary school age, though some of our leaders/helpers are from comprehensive school age and above.
What does it cost?
Holiday Bible Club is run for the benefit of the local community and as such Ebenezer Church bears the main cost of running this event. However, we do charge a nominal fee of 50p per day to help with expenses.
Tell me more about the special family night?
At the end of the week there is a special family night at 6pm on Friday. This is a time where the children get to sing songs (and demonstrate the actions for their parents) and prizes are given out (both communal and individual). We warmly welcome all family members and members of the church to attend this special night.
