Jude and Matt Tindale have sent off their application form to OMF for missionary service in Japan. They will have to pass medicals and have interviews before they are accepted. If all goes to plan they could be in Japan as early as November. To begin with they would go for two years to Sapporo where the language school is. The children will pick up the language much quicker than Mum and Dad. The average annual snowfall in Sapporo is 8 metres, so Edinburgh has been a better training ground for the weather than South Wales. Pray for the family as the year unfolds with all that needs to be done before they can set off for Japan.

Jess Rowe is back in Watford for her second term with Soul Survivor where she has a very full programme of training and activities. She is involved with kids club and “live at the barn” for young people once a month. Every week there is Monday alpha where Jess helps with the creche, she is set up manager for the 5pm service on Sundays and is also a “street angel” (going on the street and looking after drunken people). Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays there is teaching on various aspects of christian life and service. From the 5th to 17th March Jess will be travelling with a team to Cambodia and Malaysia which will be an amazing experience and a test of faith. Remember to pray for Jess to be relying on God and to have the confidence to serve Him in all these ways.

Dropaccino

Dropaccino is an informal cafe for young people which is going to be set up in the church in the near future. It’ll be a great opportunity to reach out to those in the 16-25 age group. The costs of setting up Dropacino are fairly high, due to the fact it needs to be perceived as a proper cafe (not just a church hall with a few tables and chairs). Therefore it would be greatly appreciated for anyone who feels the are able to give a donation towards the set-up. Marked envelopes are provided at the back/side of the church.

Mike and Ann Wheeler have written from Bolivia. A year ago Mike was asking for prayer that 15 students would enroll for the Master’s Program in the modular class. The result was that they had exactly 15, praise the Lord. The Seminary has now set out on a 2-3 year journey towards accreditation. Mike says this will bring several benefits when it is achieved. Ann is encouraged by financial giving to Radio Mosoj Chaski but they still need to build their donor base. They also want to develop audio-visual teaching material in the Quechua language when resources permit. Their latest letter is available on the table.

Dear friends and supporters,

First of all, a very happy New Year to you all. We hope you all had a really great Christmas. It has been lovely to have Grace back with us and we have enjoyed lots of family times together over the last few weeks, concluding with a New Year’s party at our house with 26 adults and young people.

Our first week back has been very busy. Firstly, both of us were involved in the organization of The European Consultation, an event which is held at Redcliffe and seeks to gather church and mission leaders to consider some of the important issues relating to mission in Europe. Secondly, Jim has been putting the finishing touches to the latest edition of Vista which takes a detailed look at the findings from the European Values Study. You will recall that Jim went to Holland to attend the Values of Europe Conference back in November and this edition of Vista sets out some of the key findings and considers their implications for Christian mission. A copy of Vista is attached.

Next week Jim will make another trip out to Spain to work with the pastors of Cordoba on the collaborative church planting project and the week after that both of us will travel out to Spain again to assist in the ECM foundations course, part of a new role which Jim will be developing into. More on this in our next Postcard.

On the family front, Grace starts back at the University of Sheffield on Saturday and will be co-leader of her student cluster (a group of small groups) and starting to take part in the worship team at St Thomas Crookes. This will be a great opportunity for Grace but do pray for her as she steps out in faith new areas. Alex is busy revising for modular GCSEs this month so pray for strength and health for him as he has not been 100% lately. He is also visiting possible schools for his sixth form studies so we ask your prayers for that too. Rosie is free from such worries and is thoroughly enjoying developing her new skills as a baker and food photographer!

Our love to you all,

Jim and Christine

See the latest version of Vista: vista-issue-8-jan-2012-final

Peter and Liz Phipps who were with us last Sunday set off for India on the 4 January to visit the Bible School near Cochin, Kerala State on the West coast of South India. Rejoy is the principal and the focus of the School is on Bible teaching, leadership training and outreach experience. Peter will be teaching for 3 hours every day from Monday to Friday. His subjects are the books of Hebrews and James. Liz will be helping Rejoy’s wife Mini in personal work with the ladies. They would appreciate prayer for their travel, teaching and interaction with the students. They return to the UK on the 21 January.
